Plan a Progressive Dinner If you feel overwhelmed by all that is involved in serving a formal dinner with several courses, delegate the responsibilities. Organize a progressive dinner in which guests move from house to house, with each host serving a different course. You can split up the meal into four courses or less, depending on how many hosts there are. The four basic courses are: appetizers, soup and/or salad, entrées and dessert. This can be easier than asking guests to bring food to a party because you know that each host will prepare the course they have been assigned. Make sure to include a simple map as an insert or on the back of your invitation to make it easy for your guests to find each location. Also, if possible, try to plan it so all the houses are within a 15- to 20-minute radius. Activities: Moving from house to house is enough activity for this event, but if you want to add something special to entertain your guests, you could organize a progressive game. Plan a scavenger hunt for guests to collect certain items or take pictures with certain things to earn points while walking or driving from house to house. Tally up the points at the end of the dinner and give prizes to the team with the most points. Create a progressive quiz with a section about each host. Or create a quiz about the neighborhood or area where the progressive dinner takes place. Menu: Have each host choose what they want to prepare for their course. If you want, you could specify a cuisine, like Italian, to guide your hosts. Decorating Ideas: Since this is a shared hosting event, it is really up to the hosts how they want to decorate. Or you could specify a certain theme, like Hawaiian. |
